Announcements : U.S. Passport Processing Times

Announcement: U.S. Passport Processing Times

If you are planning to go abroad and do not yet have a passport (that will be valid at least 6 months beyond your anticipated return date), start the process ASAP.
The current routine processing time for a U.S. passport is 10-13 weeks. For expedited processing (which requires an additional fee) the estimate is 7-9 weeks. This does not include shipping time either to the processing center or back to you. These times can change at any time.

If you are planning to study abroad in Summer or Fall 2024 and do not yet have a passport (or have not yet renewed your passport),
it is imperative that you start the U.S. application or renewal process immediately.
Waiting will put your OCS plans in jeopardy.

You can read more about the current situation with passport processing here in an article from the New York Times. Remember, your passport must be valid for six months BEYOND your estimated return date for study abroad. For example, if you are studying away in Spring 2025, your passport must be valid through at least the end of 2025 (and possibily beyond depending on when you return).

If your current passport was issued before you turned 16, it is only valid for five years!

Even if you are an applicant for a Spring 2025 program, we encourage you to obtain a passport ASAP.
